Mike Foy has been an essential part of the productivity of Advocate Construction for nearly two years now. He has a dedicated, hardworking attitude that has given him the opportunity to advance further in our company. Mike, is the ‘go to guy’ every company needs and could hope to have. How did you find out about the open position at Advocate Construction?
I was looking for a construction related position, because that has been my wheelhouse since I started working, I found the Advocate Construction ad for Permit Runner on Craigslist.
What is your position at Advocate construction?
I am now the Construction Manager. Which entails assisting with managing the crews that build the roofs, siding and gutters for the homeowners, Quality Walks after each project has been complete, I also can help order supplies for those jobs, handle any build issues and schedule the builds for the homeowners and crews.
I was promoted within a year of being hired as a permit runner.
What is your favorite part of working at Advocate?
The opportunity to be out in the field, helping our customers and Advocate. I also really appreciate the leadership Advocate Construction provides.
What makes this job different than any other position you have had in the past?
It is a good, growing company with solid ownership. It stands out from any other position or company I have worked for. I often worked for companies that had no room to grow, this company is succeeding and growing at a fast pace.
Would you recommend this job to a friend?
Yes, but I don’t like to work with friends. ;).
What advice would you give a new hire just starting out at Advocate?
Don’t give up and you will go further then you thought. If you get to work, and put in the effort you will reap the benefits of this company.
Do you feel supported by your managers and office staff? If so, would you say that has helped you succeed?
Yes, we have a decent system and process of doing things. I feel supported by my direct manager and by the owners.
Can you see yourself with this company for years to come?
Yes, I would love to retire with Advocate Construction, it is that great of a position.
What are your passions outside of work?
I am a weekend warrior! I love to listen to go to live shows of my favorite musicians, travel, ride my motorcycle, I enjoy snowmobiling in the winter months, whatever outdoor excitement I can fit into my weekend.
What is your favorite type of music?
Rock and Roll!
What was the first job you ever had?
The first job I ever had was somewhat similar to the position I hold currently, in that I worked for a general contractor at age 15. I recall working very hard to save for my first car and when I turned 16 I got that car, it made it all worth it.
